I was told I have Type II diabetes 3 years ago. I have been controlling it by diet and exercise, so far no medication. The longer I can do this, the better off I'll be. I'm trying to find sites to help me and to encourage me. This site looks like it will be a big help. Thanks

Hello to all. I was diagnosed with type II diabeties in March of 1999, I was doing ok, eating and exercising but have not got a defeatest attitude. I have stopped taking blood sugar levels but now have a better understanding that I am in denial. Today is the 1st day for the rest of my life and I understand I have to live it different that most people. You are some of the ones who are like me, I will try to keep in cntact as this has helped me to read all of these stories. Thank's Bob for the site Barbie

I had a diabetic stroke a little over a year ago and have lost control over my right side. It has taken me this long to try to get as much use on that side as possible. I am no longer able to type with both hands and I need a cane to walk. I started out with a wheel chair, then I used my little four wheeler then I graduated to the cane. I must say that it has been an eye opener to me and would like to let other people know that you don't give up at all when your Dr. tells you "you can't walk any longer" I do want to thank the Lord for being alive and walking with a cane. Without Him I would be totally home bound. I am not able to go back to the job I had but I have learned to get around with a special car that I use. I have also learned to write with my left hand and to do a lot of stuff around the house while my husband is at work. One of the things I wanted to let everyone know is even though someone looks healthy on the outside they may be hurting on the inside. If your cleaning your house and it takes you two hours to vacuum the rug so be it. Don't give up, just keep on plugging away.

I am a 13 year old Type 1 diebetic, and I was diagnosed only 6 months ago. I just got out of my honeymoon period. It is very hard for me to adjust to my new lifestyle. I have found many helpful and informative websites on the internet and this one was no exception. I visit it often and tell my closest friends to visit it too if they have any questions and are too embaressed to ask me personally.

I must compliment you on your web site. My daughter was recently diagnosed with fructose/sucrose intolerance (and just to cheer you diabetics up, try imagining having NO sugar (molasses, honey, sorbitol, mannitol etc. etc.), NO fruit, NO tomatoes which is what my daughter faces. ANYWAYS - the links on this site have been most helpful for gathering recipes (but does ANYONE have a muffin recipe that isn't rubbery?!?) and they are organized so very nicely that it is a pleasure to do a search. Thank you for spending the time to put a quality web site up on the Internet.

Just diagnosed Monday, June 7, and was taken by surprise. I know nothing about diabetes except about the treatment I require. I was in the hospital for something else, which turned out to be related to this illness. Already there is damage to my kidneys which of course depresses me. Coping is a problem because I am not educated about diabetes and my daughter found this site for me. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks - Gin

I am an insulin dependant diabetic of 12+ years. My husband and I have just recently lost our medical health insurance and have no money to keep buying supplies. Do you know of any resources for insulin and needles? I was on the Minimed pump until I got pregnant and they changed me back to needles. I had a miscarriage at 5-6 weeks and I have stayed on the needles since then (3 weeks) because I don't have a doctor right now. Anyway, any helpful hints or resource information would be much appreciated greatly.

SAYS TO BE PREPARED FOR THIS AS THEY START TO BELEIVE THEY CAN DO WITHOUT INSULIN TO LIVE. AT OTHER TIMES SHE IS WONDERFUL WITH IT. I KNOW AS HER MOTHER IT IS ONE OF THE HARDEST THINGS SHE HAS TO DEAL WITH, WATCHING ALL HER FRIENDS EAT WHAT THEY WANT AND WHEN THEY WANT. SHE IS NOW GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND GOING TO COLLEGE. I AM REALLY WORRIED ABOUT HOW SHE WILL TAKE CARE OF HER SELF NOW..ALL WE CAN DO IS PRAY AND GIVE IT TO THE LORD TO HELP HER WITH THIS..

For anyone in Cheyenne... I will be starting up a web site listing diabetic friendly items that can be found in the Cheyenne area. My 11 year old daughter was diagnosed with type 1 in Sept 98. She is a real trooper and accepted her responsiblities easily. I thank god that her disposition is so good. She will do what it takes to stay healthy and I am honest with her on possible health problems if she doesn't have the control. We do have history of diabetes on both sides of the family. Just didn't expect my child to have the disease. I love this sight and know there is alot to learn. Thanks Bob.

I have been a type 1 diabetic for sixteen years now. My grandmother Hunt had diabeties also so it runs in the family. I was diagnosed when I was five years old. While vacationing at my grandmothers house in Moab Utah, I was showing symptoms so my grandma advised us to cut vacation short. My family returned to Provo where I was diagnosed and spent over a week in the hospital. I am now 21 years old and have just recently started to be serious about taking care of my illness. I don't show any signs of complications now, but the years of neglect I am sure have taken their toll on my body. I have been married for almost a year now and It has helped motivate me to take care of myself. I don't think that this is fair, it sucks, but I am willing to do anything to keep myself in good health. I am currently using the pen and the carbo-count diet, but I am looking into the option of the pump. Any feed back would be appreciated, at the above address. All I know is that I am still so young and have so much ahead of me to look forward too. I pray there is a cure someday for future generations and hopefully for me, so that I can be in good health to share the many years to come with my wonderful wife and future family!!!!

I am now 40 and have had Insulin Dependant Diabetes for 11 years. I was diagnosed when I was 4 months pregnant and obviously it did not end with the pregnancy. I have good control and great lab results I am happy to report. My biggest complaint is dealing the the extra weight. I used to be a size 3 and am now a 10. Granted I have had two kids but it is almost impossible to get off those extra pounds. Yes, I know regular exercise is a big key but then we all know that don't we. Anyhow, hello to all of you out there. I will check this regularily now that I know it is here.

Have been a Type I diabetic for 7 years now. Have spoken with researchers from all over the world, including the DRI, U of Minn, NIH, U of V. Virginia, VivoRX, Encelle, the list is endless, so are my phone bills!!!. Bottom line is don't expect a cure for this damn disease within the next 50 years. Right now the only cure is....death. And I'm just about there!!!

I have been using a pump for about a year and haven't been able to find any newsletters or magazines that deal with pumping issues. Do you know of any sites that discuss day to day management of insulin pump therapy??

I too am new to this disease. Diagnosed 10/1/98. Tried the chat rooms, noone there. Would love to talk with others about this. I am 29, female, 4 kids, 1 husband, 2 dogs, full time job. Am unable to afford this new luxury of purchasing supplies for my new diagnosis. Trying very hard to keep up with everything. Depression is starting to develop I think. Christmas is going to be nothing this year. All money went for my supplies, how depressing is this I ask you? What do I tell my children. Doctor took me off work due to carpal tunnel syndrome. And the workers' comp is delaying paying me because they think I have CTS because I am diabetic. I am also a typist, how assanine is that? Open to all suggestions. Thanks for letting me bend your ear(s). Renee'

My husband was diagnosed an insulin reactive last year. He makes plenty of insulin, body doesn't use it. The hospital nearly killed him continuously giving him insulin, then not checking on him. Since he's also on a cholesterol diet, it got complicated. Using The Sweet One, chromium piclonate, and my own recipes, we've brought his sugar down to 145, his cholesterol to the same, with no regular medication. We eat out, do all the things we did before, but I watch him carefully, always alert to changes. Know who are the worst ones I have to watch??? Doctors and hospitals. They don't seem to care that much, especially the VA hospital.

Just found out several months ago, that I have type 11 and am not surprised as my grandmother and brother both died of complications of diabetes. My son who is 35, as had it for six years. So far only diet, is effective in keeping glucoselevels in average range of 120. My concern is headaches which occur infrequently, not severe, but I haven't had a history before.

Hello, I have had sugar for 17 years now and let me tell you I have had it bad and real bad. I live a good and healthy life now. I needed to change my dr. and I now live with this disease as if I have it under my belt!!!! I am on the Humalog and it works great for me, I also use the carbo-count diet and it is GREAT!!!! I am under control with blood sugar readings 4 times a day in the range of 80 to 150. It's wonderful!!!! I am now thinking about the Pump, it's something I need to discuss with my dr. but I feel if I can get my crazy sugars in such good control this way there is no stopping me from getting it NORMAL!!! Thanks for a great web page and I hope I can find some of my old friends I was talking to before!!!! Love and Good Health

I just got here. I'm on a search mission to find an on line type support group for Type 2 diabetics. Tried the Chat Room. No one there. I'm sure I'll find something somewhere. I guess I need to hear from other people what it is like to have diabetes. I'm so tired all of the time. I'm on Glucophage and it makes a big difference, but my energy levels are so erratic. It's really depressing. I need to compare notes with people who are more experienced at dealing with diabetes. Thanks.

Hi Bob, I just found out that I had diabetes type 2. My doctor said that my condition might be controlled through diet and with medicine. I am 47, white male, gay, 15-20 lbs. overweight, and take zestril for bp, and claritin for allergies. Would love to find out if all my sugar cravings will be unfulfilled forever. Can I splurge occasionally? Can I still have an occasional Manhattan, Bloody Mary, or vodka martini? Can I still have beer? Thanks if you have time to answer me. Thad Brendle

What a great site !! My brother Larry died 2 years ago at the age of 37 from the complications of Diabetes. We were heartbroken, so we started an organization called "Larry's Heroes" and we have established an Archery Program at Camp Ho MIta Kota in Ohio, and helped send kids to Camp Midicha in Fenton, MI, whose families would otherwise not be able to afford it. We feel all kids should be able to have a fun childhood, and this is our way of helping that happen, and we keep Larry's memory alive. We have had quite a few fund raisers and have done quite well - our next one is a Halloween party in Berkley on October 24th. We have a blast with it, just the way Larry would have wanted it !

Really like the new guestbook! Before signing the new book took a look at some of the Good Stuff paths! The t.v. and movie stuff is good, and as are the Diabetes, Legal, BBS, and computer stuff lists, but think the Good Star Trek Stuff Lists are not just good, but great! Love the Jukeboxes are really nice! Many thanks for being here! Do'nvdagohvi Wado, Nancy

I had been here before but had not spent much time here. I've been a diabetic for 37 years - my whole adult life - and have retinopathy, regular and autonomic neuopathy, orthostatic hypotension, and the insulin antibodies; have had 2 strokes, and very painful arthritis in both hands! I would love to hear from anyone who deals with all this stuff! It sounds worse then it is, at least most of the time! And at least I have insurance.
