How you found us: Thankfully, I Stumbled On The Right Link!
Comments:
It is hard, difficult and frightening to live life as a diabetic. I have been a diabetic for about 3 years and I know how people suffer with diabetes. The urge to sleep, sleep and sleep is something I could never avoid. The feeling of tiredness was something I had to live with. I was on diabenese for the last one year after the drug dianoil stopped controlling the high glucose levels. My wife and children felt sorry for me. One day I heard about the diabetic harmonisation program conducted in Kuala Lumpur. I attended the program. I stopped my diabenese since then. It is now one year since then and my blood sugar levels has always been below 6. Since then I have always wondered why diabetics have to only take medicines and cannot get well. They cannot get well and doctors do not give any hope. They only want us to keep taking medicines. I think may be doctors are brainwashed by medicine companies to insist that diabetes cannot be cured. This way all the poor souls with diabetes are forced to take their medicines. The medicine companies continue to enjoy and the poor diabetics continue to suffer. I want to share with diabetics that diabetes can be cured. They must have hope. Lawrence Joseph

My eight year old son has fructose and sucrose intolerance which appears to be a minority here in australia. I've been trying to find a support group here, to no avail. My son alex would love to communicate with another child who has the same complaint. Any feedback or recipies would be greatly appreciated. I'm so glad I found this site: I actually feel that I have made some progress!

I am 56 and have been a diabetic for 23 years. In the beginning I was diet controlled for five years, then to pills and 3 years ago was put on insulin. In the beginning I did not take this disease seriously and did not do the right thing. Ate what I wanted and didn't worry about it because there were no outward signs. Three years ago I had my first stroke and 5 months later had another. Since the first stroke, I have TIA or mini stroks about every 4-6 weeks. I also had had cat. surgery on both eyes and laser surery twice on both eyes. I now have glacoma in one eye and the retina in coming loose in my other eye. There is no feeling in both feet and legs up to my knees. Two years ago I was diagnosed with Charcot Joint. My right foot is now severly deformed. The bone structure has collasped and my foot now turns to the outside. I was in a non-walking cast for 9 months and finally fitted for a "C.R.O.W" boot (looks like a big ski boot)so that I am able to get around a little. They now suspect Charcot may be starting in my other foot may. Two weeks ago I was fitted with a pacemaker. Please don't do what I need and ignore this disease. Be aware of the complications when you go for years without being in good control. It's too late for me to change, all I can do now is try to stay as I am and not get worse. I watch my diet and stay my shots 4-5 times a day.

Hello Bob and everyone else who reads this. My name is Buddy D. Baker,51 year old white male who has been a type1 insulin dependent diabetic. Was diagnosed in April of 1974. Since that time I have: 1). Insulin Pump user for about 12 years (June '78 - Aug. '70) 2). Recipient of two Pancreas only Transplants. (had both removed due to rejection) 3). Diagnosed with secondary to type 1, Acute Periphial polyneuropathy with Gastroparieses, neurogenic bladder and secondary to extreme doses of Steroids to combat rejection developed osteoperosis resulting in a left knee replacement, four Laminectomies and placement of a Harrington Rod Appliance in my spine, and was diagnosed with Charcot Joint disease in my feet after breaking several bones in both feet just walking across my living room floor. 4). Since developing numerous difficulties with my feet I've worn since 1992 Pneumatic Aircasts on both feet. 5). Had Penile Implant performed in '88. At the time of my diagnosis or shortly therafter I was on prescribed doses of 600 mg. of Morphine daily, because of the severity of my Neuropathy as diagnosed by Dr. Peter Dyck at Mayo's he recommended the Pancrease only transplant (did not have any Kidney involvement) for a period of 18 months of the 1st Transplant done by Dr. David Sutherland (U. of Minn. - Rochester) begining in the recovery room I immediatley stopped taking any Insulin injections and remained diabetes free until my rejection eighteen months later. In the Fall of '94 I had my second Pancreas only transplant lasting a little over one year. My neuropathy has progressed to the point where I have little feeling below the knees of both legs and am relative pain free taking no pain medication of any kind. I am no longer able to detect the onset of hypoglycemic episodes hence I stopped using the Insulin Pump because of it's tendency to gradually lower blood sugar levels that could result in fatal insulin reactions. I take five injections daily and monitor blood glucose levels at least six times per day. If there is anyone out there with similar conditions of Neuropathy or you know of someone with this condition I would be very eager to communicate with such an individual. You can contact me at: Buddy D. Baker 420 E. Douglas Iola, Kansas 66749 (316)365-6753 bdbake@midusa.net I would be glad to communicate with any diabetic. I am single with three adult and one teenager children.

Bob, thanks for sharing all this info about diabetes. I have been told I am a diabetic six months ago. I am managing it right now with monitoring my glucose levels and diet and excercise. I use the fast take machine. I was surfing the net for info about diabetes and "diet" and hoping to find a chat room for diabetics and I stumbled onto your site. I tried to refister on your chatroom for diabetics but could not get on. I want to know what kinds of snacks and foods I can buy at the store to have around the house. Are there any "cookies" or munchies that are okay, I use the jam made with Nutrisweet and the I can't believe it's not butter spray, any other "nifty" tips you could share with me would be appreciated........Come visit my website and leave your email and URL link in my guestbook too. Thanks, Cindy
